In week 3, we learnt about different types of theories that we need to know for our exams. The theory we learnt about are:
Stuart hall in 1980- He believes that everything you see in a movie is encoded which means they are all chosen beforehand. There are three ways that audience can understand a media text. They are preferred reading , negotiated reading and opposition reading. Also, there are seven representation theories which are Class, gender, regional identity, age physical ability/ disability, ethnicity and sexuality. The other theory I learnt was the male gaze by Lura Mulvey, binary opposites by Claude levi-strasus , ideal self by Cark Rogers, narrative structure by Tzventan Todorov and stereotypes by Walter Lipmann. Learning about these theory helped me visualise whether we can use some of these theory in our opening sequence and also why they are used to representation were included in films and TV series.
